Exhibition News
Here’s notice of a few exhibitions opening soon. The first is by local member Mary Pritchard who has her end of year show coming up at Central St Martins (details below). The second is by Quentin Ball, a former Queen’s Park regular and curator of our exhibition last year, but now moved over to the Muswell Hill group. Details also below.
Also worth checking out is ‘Picturing Harrow Road’ (until 20 June). London Print Studio presents an exciting exhibition which celebrates the Harrow Road and the people who work there. It involves all the shops, shop staff and shop fronts along the Harrow Road. For more info visit www.londonprintstudio.org.uk
And one for your diaries in July – André Kertész: On Reading – that will take place at the Photographers Gallery – see www.photonet.org.uk for details.
Mary writes; For the last year (well in fact since October) I have been on the postgraduate certificate in Photography course at Central St Martins College of Art. It has been an amazing experience – absorbing, challenging, frustrating, fun, stressful, exciting and lots of other adjectives in between! The course is now coming to a close and we are having a group exhibition within the college building at 107-109, Charing Cross Road, London, WC2H 0DUS. Nearest tubes are Leicester Square or Tottenham Court Road. We are a group of 18 photographers with a wide variety of interests and approaches to how we engage with the medium and express our interests visually.
My personal project (‘Rooted in Time’) concerns ancient heritage trees in the UK (some of which are several thousand years old). They all have a ‘story to tell’ – whether it is that they were a meeting place for Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn or whether they were famous for more sinister reasons (such as being used as a gibbet or hanging tree). I attach some images with this invitation. I am exhibiting one huge hand-coloured image of one of these trees – the Ashbrittle Yew (95 x 120 cms in size) and a portfolio of smaller sized images. I have been using a classic large format film camera to portray the architectural scale of the trees and a smaller camera to capture the detail of the trees and their interaction with humanity.
