Mary Pritchard

I have been an active member of the Queens Park Lip group for several years and have had work in most of their recent shows aswell as the selected London-wide Lip shows.
Having had several changes of direction in my working life, I have been lucky enough to have found my passions – ceramics and photography.
I originally came to photography through a need to take record shots of my ceramics, but my interest has grown since then into full blown obsession!
Like many photographers I started off taking photographs of landscape and nature but have broadened my field of interests.
I now like to photograph a wide range of subjects from travel, details of surfaces and textures, random things which capture my attention, how to record memories, to working on personal projects. I like to find beauty in the commonplace and record this.
I use digital and film and have a number of different cameras which I see as tools for using in different ways depending on the situation and needs of the subject. I am also interested in alternative darkroom processes and pinhole cameras.
I work under commission and have been involved in various community projects as a photographer.
I am currently taking a postgraduate course in Photography at Central St Martins School of Art. My final project for this course is on ancient heritage trees of Great Britain for which I am using a large format field camera.
