Constantine Gras

I’m a visual artist who uses film, photography, creative writing and painting to explore cultural, environmental and philosophical issues.

In 2009, I was able to combine two passions, cycling and photography, when I curated the Pedal Power exhibition at the Museum of Oxford which was seen by over 16,000 people:  See here

Also in 2009, I was one of 4 artists selected to tell the West London Story as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad with a project called Water – Way of Life. This is an arts, educational and environmental project that creatively connects people with the theme of water and the waterways of West London: See here

I’ve just completed Water Works in which 10 senior residents of the London borough of Brent used photography to explore their relationship wtih water. This was exhibited at The Gallery, Willesden Library Centre in March 2010. It will also be shown at the Kew Bridge Steam Museum from the 3-31 July 2010:  See here

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea have commissioned me to produce an arts event for the InTRANSIT festival being held from 19 July – 1 August.  Flood Light is an project which invites participants to journey, explore and artistically connect with the Grand Union Canal and Westway by creating a 3 minute film about their journey across both of these locations.  Any one can take part and all films submitted will be shown at the Video Cafe as part of the Portobello Film Festival in September 2010. A panel will select 3 of the best films and invite the filmmakers to take part in a documentary I am making about the project. There are also two artist-led guided tours of the route on the 31 July and 1 August 2010 which is only for residents of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Participants will be provided with film cameras and have the opportunity to complete a short film by attending a follow-up editing session at the V&A’s Sackler Centre for Education on the 21 and 22 August.  See here
